| Capital projects are increasingly
large, complex and constrained. Every project involves
a large number of interested parties and professional
and technical disciplines. Each capital project is an OR problem,
requiring a sharp focus to obtain the resolution of needs,
resources and objectives in a fast-moving situation.
The role of each discipline within project requires an
understanding of the task to be undertaken and its interaction
with others. The overall management needs to resolve
these tasks into the best mix to achieve the desired
objectives.
Membership of the Special Interest Group is composed
of clients, managers, professionals, designers, producers,
administrators, planners who are interested in OR thinking
and practice throughout the processes of a project and
their co-ordination into a goal-seeking set.
Activities of the group include:
- presentation of latest experience from
case studies;
- description of approaches and techniques
by practitioners;
- discussion meetings, where all participate
in the contribution of their ideas and views on a topic
from which a paper can be forthcoming; and
- participation with other special interest groups
in joint meetings.
Topics cover planning, control, finances,
resource use, design and environmental control, together
with particular techniques and computer application. |
