OR50 Annual Conference - Assisted Places

Assisted Places

The OR Society's annual conference is an important event in delivering its charitable aims as it has the potential to reach a large number of both members and non-members.

Whilst the Society does not aim to make vast profits from the Conference, the price of registration and accommodation taken together with travel costs can soon mount up. Practitioners from larger organisations tend to get conference places paid for by their employers, whilst many academics have conference budgets to cover their attendance at events such as this. There are, however, a number of potential attendees for whom the conference costs represent a significant barrier. These potential attendees would not only benefit personally from attendance, but the conference itself and the wider OR community could gain value.

So, the next step is up to you! Successful applicants will gain the opportunity to present their work and circulate with experts in the field.  In turn, the OR community will gain from additional presented papers.

See Laura’s experience below (successful candidate at OR49):

‘’I attended the OR49 conference whilst completing a work placement year at HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs), without the assisted places offered by the OR society I would not have been given the opportunity to attend. I felt this not only benefited me by giving me a greater insight into the different applications where OR was being within a variety of different companies (insight which has  helped me during my final year when applying for OR graduate positions) but also allowed me to present the interesting work which I had been undertaking to other members of the society. ‘’
